BIOGRAPHY

When we first saw the words "born," "Esti Ginzburg" and "1990" in the same sentence, we immediately pictured our future selves as those creepy old men who take up precious bench space in the park just so they can shamelessly stare at girls who weren't even born before their first heart attack. Fortunately, we have grade five math under our belts, and we were relieved to find out Ginzburg is a totally acceptable 19 years old. According to people like Mel Gibson, that age difference isn't gross at all.

Born in Tel Aviv, Esti Ginzburg landed her first modeling gig at the age of 8 for Tnuva dairy farms. It wasn't exactly as big bucks as our "Got Milk?" campaign in the U.S., but it was a start. Ginzburg moved on to greener pastures six years later when she signed with Elite Models and began working for high-profile fashion houses like Tommy Hilfiger and Burberry.

Heidi Klum, Cindy Crawford and Elle MacPherson have all given us a reason to think of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Edition as the real Christmas, a time to remember the goodness in people, especially if said people are hot women in bikinis. Sure, there are times we have to listen to the rantings of a regular woman who futilely tries to convince us that the magazine edition is misogynistic and demeaning, but then we just remind ourselves that said woman is regular, prone to such human emotions as envy and, worse, jealousy. She's no (Victoria's Secret) angel.

Any model knows that landing a spot in the Swimsuit Edition is career-changing. Esti Ginzburg knew that when she got the phone call. "I was shocked," she said. "I was standing in the streets of New York, and I got a call from my booker, and I was screaming, and I called my mom and sister and everyone to tell them. This was something I wanted for a while. It's a dream for a lot of models, and it's a big deal. I didn't even think I would get it. I went into casting and hoped it would happen, but I never thought I would get it."

ESTI GINZBURG STARS IN TWELVE

Like many a model past, Esti Ginzburg wants you to know she can also act. But unlike Gisele Bundchen who decided that debuting her acting skills in a Jim Fallon-headlined movie would be a good idea, Ginzburg is starting in the big leagues. Her first film role in the Joel Schumacher-directed drama Twelve, which also stars Kiefer Sutherland, Emma Roberts, Ellen Barkin, and Chace Crawford. We'll have to wait until its 2010 release to see if Ms. Ginzburg is a little more Brooke Shields and a little less Shalom Harlow when it comes to making the transition from model to actress. Hopefully by then she'll have broken things off with her costar Chace Crawford, who she's rumored to currently be dating. And at least then she'll be 20 years old -- a little too old for Mel Gibson but no longer a teenager, and that's fine with us.
